Getting started
Install Keymint
Keymint is coming soon to the Chrome Web Store. Email us and we'll tell you as soon as you can install it.
After installing, click the puzzle-piece icon in Chrome's toolbar and pin Keymint so its icon is always one click away.
Your first collection
- Search for a keyword on Google, or open any page and click the Keymint icon.
- On Google or Etsy, Keymint recognises the page and fills in your keyword. Anywhere else, choose Google or Etsy and type a keyword.
- Click Expand & collect. The Keymint workspace opens in a new tab and starts asking autocomplete about each variation, one at a time.
- Suggestions appear in the table as they arrive. Use Pause, Resume or Cancel at any time; collected keywords are always kept.
Choosing expansion methods
In the workspace, the Expansion methods panel decides which variations are queried. Each method shows an example using your keyword, and the panel shows how many queries your choices add up to before you press Start collecting.
- Alphabet: A–Z after your keyword, joined to it, or before it. Open Characters to use letters from another alphabet.
- Numbers: 0–9 after or before your keyword.
- Questions & modifiers: words like how, best or near me. Edit the lists to suit your niche.
- Your own: custom words before or after, and templates such as
best {seed} {x}, where{x}repeats the template for every character.
Several seed keywords can be researched in one go: put one per line. Under Recursive expansion & exclusions you can also query new suggestions again (with a limit on the total number of queries) and add negative keywords to hide terms you don't want.
Researching on Etsy
Etsy only answers suggestion requests made from its own website, so Keymint sends them from an etsy.com tab in your browser.
- If no Etsy tab is open when you start, Keymint asks Open an Etsy tab? and opens one in the background if you agree.
- Keep that tab open while collecting. Etsy queries run more slowly than Google's (about one every 1.5 seconds) to stay polite.
- Etsy suggestions follow the language and region you use on Etsy.
Capturing suggestions from the page
Type in the Google or Etsy search box until suggestions appear, then click the Keymint icon. The popup lists the suggestions it saw on that page; click Add to workspace to keep them.
To collect suggestions continuously while you type, tick Live capture in the popup. The Keymint icon shows LIVE while it is on. Untick it to stop.
Exporting results
Click Export in the workspace, choose which rows (selected, shown or all) and which columns to include, then pick a format:
| Format | Best for |
|---|---|
| CSV (Excel) | Opening directly in Microsoft Excel. Non-English text displays correctly, and cells that start with =, +, - or @ get a leading apostrophe so Excel doesn't treat them as formulas. |
| CSV | Google Sheets (File → Import) and other tools that read standard CSV. |
| TXT | One keyword per line, for pasting into other keyword tools. |
Copy puts the selected keywords (or all shown keywords) on your clipboard, one per line. To bring in a list you already have, open the ⋯ menu and choose Import CSV or TXT…; duplicates are skipped.
Troubleshooting
Keymint shows a message above the progress bar when something needs your attention. Find yours below.
“… is rate limiting requests (HTTP 429)”
Google is rate limiting requests (HTTP 429). Wait a few minutes, then resume with a longer delay. The site has asked Keymint to slow down. Collection has stopped and everything found so far is kept. Wait a few minutes, raise Delay between queries in Settings, then press Resume. Keymint never tries to get around limits.
“… is showing a verification page” or “refused the request (HTTP 403)”
Etsy is showing a verification page. Switch to your Etsy tab, complete the check, then resume. The site wants to confirm a person is browsing. Open Google or Etsy in a normal tab (for Etsy, use Show Etsy tab), complete the check if one is shown, then press Resume. Keymint will not solve or skip these checks for you.
“Etsy research needs an open etsy.com tab”
You chose not to open an Etsy tab, or the tab was closed. Open etsy.com in a tab, keep it open, and start again.
“… returned no suggestions for these queries”
Autocomplete had nothing to suggest. Try a shorter or more common keyword, add more expansion methods, or check Language and Country under Google in Settings.
“… may have changed” or “unexpected response format”
Google or Etsy answered in a way Keymint doesn't recognise, which can happen when a site changes its suggestion service. Open Keymint's Settings and click Test Etsy and Google connections. If a ✗ appears, email us the result and we'll look into an update. Capturing visible suggestions from the page may still work in the meantime.
Some queries failed
Brief network problems are retried automatically. Anything that still failed is listed when the run finishes; press Retry failed to try those queries again.
“You appear to be offline”
Keymint couldn't reach the internet. Reconnect, then press Start collecting again.
The popup says “Reload this page to read its visible suggestions.”
The page was opened before Keymint was installed or updated. Reload it, type in the search box again, then reopen the popup.
The popup shows no suggestions from the page
Type in the Google or Etsy search box until the suggestion list appears, then open the popup. If a site has changed the way its suggestion list is built, Keymint may not be able to read it; Expand & collect still works. Let us know so we can update Keymint.
I closed the workspace during a collection
Open the workspace again (Keymint icon → Open workspace). You'll see “This research has an unfinished run”. Press Resume to continue where it stopped, or Cancel to keep what was collected.
My earlier research is missing
Click History in the workspace to reopen past sessions. If the workspace shows “Not saved (history off)”, saving is turned off: turn on Save research sessions on this device in Settings. Research lives in your Chrome profile, so it isn't available in a different profile or on another computer.
Some keywords start with an apostrophe in my CSV
That's the CSV (Excel) safety feature for cells beginning with =, +, - or @. Use plain CSV if your tool doesn't need it.
The Keymint icon says LIVE
Live capture is on, so suggestions you see while typing on Google or Etsy are being added to your workspace. Open the popup and untick Live capture to turn it off.
Your data
Keymint stores your research only in your Chrome profile and has no servers or accounts. You stay in control:
- Remove keywords: select rows and press Delete, or use ⋯ → Clear all keywords….
- Remove sessions: open History and use the ✕ next to a session.
- Stop saving: untick Save research sessions on this device in Settings.
- Remove everything: Settings → Delete all Keymint data…, or uninstall Keymint.
Read the full privacy policy for exactly what Keymint reads, stores and sends.
